MEN’S BUSINESS MEETING: November 6, 2011 @ 1:45 p.m.
IN OUR CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD THIS WEEK, LET’S REMEMBER:
-- In long-term Senior Health Care Facilities: Edna Knutson (Providence Place); Julia Thiessen (Providence Place);
-- Gordon and Vivian have requested prayers regarding Gordon’s Parkinson disease because the symptoms seem to be getting worse. Gordon was given some new medication about three weeks ago but he isn’t sure it’s done much to reduce the tremors;
-- Paul & Evelee have requested prayers with regard to Evelee’s cancer. She had a Formal Lymph-node Dissection at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on Sept. 8th. They are awaiting the results of the tests--we pray they will show the cancer hasn’t spread;
-- Gladys as she recovers from her broken hip and the surgery that followed on July 15th;
-- Keith Dods as he is having another round of chemo treatments for his cancer;
-- Vicki Knutson (Regina) as she is struggling with her cancer; she is now in Palative Care
-- please keep the families of all of the above named in your prayers. We know sickness in a member of one’s family is stressful for the whole family;
-- our government leaders; world peace;
-- take a look around and remember one another in our Church family—may we show Jesus and His love through our words and actions.
SPECIAL PRAYER REQUEST: -- Sharon’s brother-in-law, Walter Ridgeway (Edmonton) has recently found out that his cancer is back “with a vengeance”. Tests show there is a large mass in his upper right lung, several other new, smaller nodules in the lungs and there are abnormal lymph nodes in the right armpit area. Walter had been doing quite well, so it has been quite a shock for them to learn now that it has progressed so much in the last six months and that it is more aggressive and faster-growing than previously. They have been advised that there is so much disease that surgery is no longer an option. He has been offered some chemo which would try to control the spread of the cancer, but is not expected it would cure the cancer. At best, it would shrink the tumors, which would alleviate some of the pain he is in. His next appointment will be about mid-October. Please add Walter and Cathie to your prayer list. He’s been struggling with cancer for several years now.
THANK YOU!: -- to Gordon who has pulled all the address, phone number, e-mail information together for us and has prepared an updated congregational directly list. We are having problems with our photocopier and as soon as it is fixed (which if it hasn’t been by now, will be in the next week or so) a copy of the list will be made for each family. For privacy/security reasons, the list will not be published on the Church website, nor will it be left on the table in the foyer. Thank you so much for looking after this job Gordon!
THANK YOU!: -- to Hope, who has looked after our flower beds here again this summer. Special thanks for the bed at the south side of the building which has been blooming beautifully all season! You were blessed with a “green thumb” Hope and we appreciate you sharing your talents with us.
THANK YOU!: -- “Thank you for the generous contribution of food and supplies to welcome us to Moose Jaw. We have been blessed by the warmth of your embrace and look forward to journeying together with you as we seek to serve God in this community.”
-- Darrell & Darlene
WELCOME GIFT: -- for Brooke Peterson who is attending the Briercrest Bible College--she is taking the four year Business Administration course (I think actually the last year will
be at SIAST here in Moose Jaw) and also playing on the B.B.C. College Volleyball team. If Brooke doesn’t have volleyball on Saturday, she goes home to Weyburn for the weekend but when she does have volleyball, she is part of our congregation—and it’s wonderful to have you with us Brooke! As Brooke has board & room at the College, we will veer away from our traditional food hamper when someone moves to Moose Jaw, and will collect money to purchase some gift cards for her—gas, eating-out cards etc. If you would like to be part of this welcome gift for Brooke, please give your donation to either Terri-Lynn or Linda. Deadline: Sunday, October 16th.
COMMUNION SET-UP & CLEAN-UP: -- we need volunteers for this job for the months of November and December. Please mark your name down on the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board if you can look after either of these months.
As was mentioned last week, to make things easier and so we don’t have to carry the communion trays up and down the stairs, a counter-top fridge was purchased and set-up on the counter in the nursery. Having the sink in there will make it so that the trays can be cleaned as required. All communion supplies are in the cupboards below the fridge.
NEEDED: -- the fridge downstairs in the kitchen has quit and we need a replacement. The fridge doesn’t get used a great deal, so we are trying to find a used one. If you have a fridge you are getting rid of and would like to donate it, please talk to Douglas. If he doesn’t hear anything over the next two weeks, he will pursue finding a used one reasonably priced and in good working order
VOLUNTEERS STILL REQUIRED: -- for cutting the grass here at the building. If you can help, please mark your name down on the calendar on the b.b. More info: check with Douglas. Thanks to those who have done this job over the summer months!
CLEARVIEW CHRISTIAN CAMP ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: -- will be this Sat., October 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mess Hall at the Camp. Following the meeting the rest of the day will be spent doing Camp clean-up/close-up for the winter. If you can come for the day, or even part of it, your attendance at the meeting and your assistance with close-up would be greatly appreciated. -- Board of Directors, Clearview Christian Camp
OUR ON-GOING COLLECTIONS:
(1). Canadian Tire Money: can be given to Linda. This will be used to purchase something for use in the kitchen at Clearview Christian Camp next summer. So far we have $13.20. In 2010 we purchased a coffee maker and in 2011 a mixette.
(2). Moose Jaw & District Food Bank: all non-perishable grocery items are gratefully accepted and can be placed in the container in the foyer.
(3). For Western Christian College: Campbell Soup labels. The whole label--ensure that the UPC bar code is in tack. Campbell’s Soup gives the school a rebate for labels sent in.

** Evening news is where they begin with “Good Evening”, and then proceed to tell you why it isn’t.
** I thought I wanted a career. Turns out I just wanted paycheques.
** Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
HA! HA!:
** Little Bobby came home from his first day at school and his mother asked what he had learned that day. Bobby replied, “Not enough. I have to go back tomorrow.”
** Mom: “How did you find school today Sally?”
Sally: “I just hopped off the bus and there it was.”
** Kid: “I think we need a new teacher!”
Mom: “Why is that?”
Kid: “Our teacher doesn’t know anything. She keeps asking us for all the answers!”
THE STRATEGY OF PATIENCE
“Trust in the Lord, and do good … Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him.”
-- Psalm 37:3 7
Patience should characterize the life of every believer who is trying to do God’s will. This virtue is illustrated by John Wooden in his book They Call Me Coach. The author, who was head basketball coach at UCLA for many years, said, “In game play, it has always been my philosophy that patience will win out. By that, I mean patience to follow our game plan. If we do believe in it, we will wear the opposition down and will get to them. If we break away from our style, however, and play their style, we’re in trouble. And if we let our emotions command the game rather than our reason, we will not function effectively. I constantly caution our team, ‘Play your game … Eventually, if you play your game, stick to your style, class will tell in the end!’ This does not mean that we will always outscore our opponent, but it does ensure that we will not beat ourselves.’”
In Psalm 37, God is saying, in effect, “Do what’s right and trust Me. Regardless of how badly you may seem to be losing, just do My will and leave the outcome to Me. I’ll make sure that eventually you’ll be the winner.” Such a strategy will not only keep us from beating ourselves, it will lead to glorious victory! -- Martin De Haan
“To know our work is not in vain, as partners of the Lord,
Provides the patience that we need to wait for God’s reward.”
“You can’t lose if you stay with God’s game plan.”
