IN OUR CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD THIS WEEK, LET’S REMEMBER:
-- In long-term Senior Health Care Facilities: Edna Knutson (Providence Place); Julia Thiessen (Providence Place);
-- Gordon and Vivian have requested prayers regarding Gordon’s Parkinson symptoms which have been worsening of late. He was given some new medication two weeks ago that is supposed to help calm the tremors and now that the first couple of weeks have passed, we pray that it is giving you some relief Gordon;
-- Paul & Evelee have requested prayers with regard to Evelee’s cancer. She had a Formal Lymph-node Dissection at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on Thursday. We pray the procedure went well and the results of the tests will show the cancer hasn’t spread;
-- Gladys as she recovers from her broken hip and the surgery that followed on July 15th;
-- Keith Dods as he is having another round of chemo treatments for his cancer;
-- Vicki Knutson (Regina) as she is struggling with her cancer;
-- please keep the families of all of the above named in your prayers. We know sickness in a member of one’s family is stressful for the whole family;
-- our government leaders; world peace;
-- take a look around and remember one another in our Church family—may we show Jesus and His love through our words and actions.

ADULT SUNDAY MORNING BIBLE CLASS—10:00 a.m.: -- beginning today, Darrell will be leading us in a study through the book of Genesis. If you aren’t involved in the children’s classes downstairs, and are able, please join the adult class at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. We look forward to the class Darrell.

“Life is really like a shower. One wrong turn and you’re in hot water!”

“People will believe anything—if you whisper it!”

“Church attendance is determined more by desire than by distance.”

“Don’t complain about thorns among roses--be grateful for roses among thorns.”

CONGRATULATIONS!: -- to Rhaea on an outstanding display of strength exhibited in her winning of the International Powerlifting Federation Junior World 84+ kg Competition in front of the home-crowd last Saturday. Rhaea got first in the Bench Press competition with a lift of 157.5 kg, third in Squat with a lift of 230 kg and she lifted 195 kg in the Deadlift, for a total of 582.5 kgs which made her the overall winner of her weigh division and earned her the gold medal! We know all of this comes with an unbelievable amount of hours in the gym! Congratulations on an incredible win Rhaea—we’re so proud of you!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: -- we seem to be getting just enough moisture to keep the grass growing, so we are still in need of volunteers to cut the grass for the next few weeks. If you can help, please mark your name down on the calendar on the b.b. More info: check with Douglas. Thanks to those who have done this job over the summer.

COMMUNION SET-UP & CLEAN-UP: -- we need a volunteer to look after preparation and clean-up of the communion emblems for this month, and also for November and December. If you can do this job for any of these times, please mark your name down on the sheet on the bulletin board. Thanks!

** Please note that a new supply of the disposable communion cups has been ordered and should be here in the next week or so.

CLEARVIEW CHRISTIAN CAMP ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: -- will be Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mess Hall at the Camp. Following the meeting the rest of the day will be spent doing Camp clean-up/close-up for the winter. AUTUMN HUMOR
** Autumn is a season for big decisions—like whether or not it’s too late to start spring cleaning!
** I got tired of looking at all those leaves in my yard, so I got up off the couch and went into action. I closed the curtains.

“We can usually do MORE than we think we can, but usually we do LESS than we think we can.”

GOD’S WINGS
After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno’s damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in the ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he moved it gently with a stick and three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother’s wings. The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies. Even when the blaze arrived and the heat scorched her small body, the mother had remained steadfast … because she had been willing to die, so those under the cover of her wings would live.

How like our Heavenly Father this mother bird was. Psalm 91:4-6 says, “He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge, his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.”

We need to praise Him and thank Him for “covering us with His feathers and sheltering us under His wings!”

CAPSULE SERMONS ….
** Correcting faults is like tying a necktie—you can do it better on yourself than you can on somebody else!
** Bear in mind that children of all ages have one thing in common: they close their ears to advise and open their eyes to   example!
** Life’s greatest tragedy is to lose God and never miss Him.** Failing to plan is to plan to fail!
** Keep your temper. Nobody wants it!
** Five second sermon: “It wasn’t raining when Noah built the Ark!”
** A lot of kneeling keeps you in good standing with God.

HA! HA!:
The young housewife was anything but a tidy housekeeper. It didn’t bother her much until one evening when her husband called from the hall, somewhat dismayed: “Honey, what happened to the dust on this table? I had a phone number written in it.”

HOW TO AMAZE PEOPLE
“By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” -- John 13:35

David Doubilet is a photo-journalist whose pictures of a silent underwater world can turn even an ugly, bug-eyed sea creature into a lovely, luminescent work of art. Although he has received many honors for his work, he has also been criticized by some environmentalists for not doing more “hard-edge” journalism. They want him to take pictures of dead fish, dirty beaches and polluted oceans.

But Doubilet believes there’s a better way to get people to care about the environment. Instead of showing the destruction that humans are causing, he shows the beauty God has created.

Some Christians seem to think that the way to improve our spiritual environment is to point out all the evil in the world. But Jesus showed us a better way. Although He never glossed over sin, He said to His followers before going to the cross, “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” We are more effective witnesses when we become portraits of the beauty God is creating in us than when we merely paint a bleak picture of human degradation.

“In the end,” says Doubilet, “the best thing one can do is to amaze people.” And what could be more amazing to the world than Christians who truly love one another?
-- Julie A. Link

“Oh, what glory in a sunrise—golden hues from God above!

More amazing still the beauty, of a life filled with His love!
