MEN’S BUSINESS MEETING: January 15, 2012 @ 1:45 p.m.

IN OUR CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD THIS WEEK, LET’S PRAY FOR:
-- In long-term Senior Health Care Facilities: Edna Knutson (Providence Place); Julia Thiessen (Providence Place);
-- Gordon has had a challenging week after a fall last Saturday ended up with him in hospital with a fractured wrist and hairline fracture of his hip. Complications developed Tuesday requiring surgical intervention. As of Thursday, he was showing improvement, but remains in the hospital. This has been a very stressful time for Gordon & Vivian and we need to keep them in our prayers;
-- Evelee had her second chemo treatment on Friday. We need to keep Paul & Evelee in our prayers as they go through these treatments over the next 12 weeks, and deal with the side-effects of them;
-- Gladys as she recovers from her broken hip and the surgery that followed on July 15th;
-- Walter & Cathy Ridgeway (Edmonton), Sharon’s sister & brother-in-law as they deal with Walter’s cancer. He is sleeping a fair bit. More pain medication has been added which seems to be working better at controlling the pain;
-- Lil King (Winnipeg)--cancer. She is in her 90’s and no treatments will be given as they would be to hard on her. Lil is the mother/mother-in-law of Gary& Eva (Bell) King;
-- the group from Saskatchewan who are in India until Dec. 6th with the “Heart Warmer Ministries”—Ray McMillan (Regina), Wilf & Laura Olson (Regina), Shelby Goud (Carlyle) and Ian McLeod (Saskatoon);
-- please keep the families of all of the above named in your prayers. We know sickness in a member of one’s family is stressful for the whole family;
-- our government leaders; world peace;
-- take a look around and remember one another in our Church family—may we show Jesus and His love through our words and actions.

Instead of lamenting the absurdity of the world, let us try to transform the corner of it that we live in!

SYMPATHY: -- as most will be aware, Keith Dods passed away on Nov. 19th at the age of 56 years, due to cancer. His funeral was yesterday. We want to express our sincere sympathy to Ralph on this terrible loss. Keith is also survived by his brother Melvin, nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Allan (2006) and his Mom Gladys on June 27, 2011. Keith was one of the friendliest people you could come across—no matter where you bumped into him, a great visit would follow! Ralph, you are in our thoughts and especially our prayers as you lose another special loved one.

THANK YOU!: -- thanks so much to those who donated to the Operation Christmas Child boxes over the past six weeks. We were able to fill 12 boxes this year—and we know they will be greatly treasured by the children who receive them. We have no concept of how much a few items can mean to a child who in all likelihood has never received any type of gift before. Thank you for sharing and for making a child’s day a great deal brighter!

FOR THE BABIES IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA: -- “I am gathering baby blankets, receiving blankets, sleepers and undershirts for One Mile Clinic. Velma said sleepers and undershirts for ages two and under are what are needed for them to hand out at the Clinic. These do not need to be new—if you wish to purchase some, that’s great, but if anyone has used ones they are done with that is perfectly fine to.” -- Donna

KEEP IN MIND: -- if someone will donate the use of their garage, we would like to have a garage sale in the spring with proceeds going to Clearview Christian Camp. So, over the winter months and during your spring cleaning, if you come upon any items that you would like to donate, that would be great. Items can be put on the tables in the large classroom downstairs, or you can just set them aside at home until the sale. It’s a good way to get rid of your “junk” and support a worthy cause at the same time.

OUR ON-GOING COLLECTIONS:
(1). Canadian Tire Money: can be given to Linda. This will be used to purchase something for use in the kitchen at Clearview Christian Camp next summer. So far we have $18.05. In 2010 we purchased a coffee maker and in 2011 a mixette.
(2). Moose Jaw & District Food Bank: all non-perishable grocery items are gratefully accepted and can be placed in the container in the foyer.
(3). For Western Christian College: Campbell Soup labels. The whole label--ensure that the UPC bar code is in tack. Campbell’s Soup gives the school a rebate for labels sent in.

A PRAYER FOR CHILDREN …
We pray for children—who sneak snacks before supper. Who don’t zip their coats up.
Who can never find their shoes.
And we pray for those who stare at photographers from behind barbed wire—who can’t
bound down the street in a new pair of sneakers—who are born in places we wouldn’t
be caught dead in—who have never seen a circus—who live in an x-rated world.
We pray for children who bring us sticky kisses and fistfuls of dandelions—who hug us in a
hurry and forget their lunch money.
And we pray for those who never get dessert—who have no security blanket to drag
behind them—who watch their parents watch them die—who can’t find any bread
even to steal—who don’t have any rooms to clean up—whose pictures aren’t on
anybody’s dresser—whose monsters are real.
We pray for children who spend all their allowance before Tuesday—who throw tantrums
in the grocery store and pick at their food—who shove their dirty clothes under the bed
and never rinse out the tub—who get visits from the tooth fairy—who don’t like to be
kissed in front of the carpool—who squirm in Church—whose tears we sometimes
laugh at—and whose smiles can make us cry.
And we pray for those whose nightmares are real and come in the daytime—who will eat
anything—who have never seen a dentist---who aren’t spoiled by anybody—who go to
bed hungry and cry themselves to sleep—who live and move and have no being.
We pray for children who want to be carried—and for those who must be. For those we
never give up on—and for those who never get a second chance. For those we smother
with love—and for those who will grab the hand of anybody kind enough to offer it.
We must pray for ALL the children of the world!

HA! HA!: An elderly lady’s vision was deteriorating, but she knew she could still see well enough to drive.
One morning, she phoned the police to report that someone had broken into her car during the night. “The dashboard is missing, as well as the steering wheel, the radio, the pedals and even the glove compartment!” she hollered excitedly.
Within five minutes, a police officer was on his way; but before he arrived, the lady called the police station a second time. “Never mind,” she said sheepishly. “I got into the backseat by mistake.”

Contentment is one of those elusive traits we esteem in others but find difficult to cultivate in our own lives. We may fool ourselves into believing that we are content, but we catch ourselves pining away for yet another “toy”. Words written more than two thousand years ago still echo down through the ages with simple, Godly wisdom: “Because I am God’s, I have everything I need.”
Are those words true for you today? Do you have everything you need? Often, we define “need” as “want”. But God promises to feed, clothe and shelter His children—to take care of their needs. When we put Him first, He also promises to pour blessings beyond our needs.
A shepherd makes sure his lambs are cared for. Trust your life—every worrisome detail—to the Shepherd who made green pastures for you.

whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need and I know what it
is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every
situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can
do everything through him who gives me strength.” -- Philippians 4:11-13
