CONGRATULATIONS!: -- our own Brooke was named the Jan. 2-8, 2012 “Athlete of the Week” by the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference last week!. The write-up says: “Brooke Peterson, Briercrest College Women’s Volleyball: Brooke had an outstanding weekend on both defense and serve receive and was a key reason for the Briercrest Clipper’s two wins on the road against the Lethbridge Kodiaks. She is in her second year and leads the league with 204 digs. She added to that total with 29 more on the weekend in just seven sets of action. Not only did she help shut down the Lethbridge attack, but was the key reason for our success on offense as she had a passing average of 2.45 with 70% passes. Brooke also earned player of the game honors on Friday night for her outstanding play and then performed even better during Saturday’s match!
Brooke is an extremely dedicated athlete and puts in extra time every week to improve her great God-given abilities, and it is great to see her hard work paying off! Brook is in her second year of a BA in Business Administration at Briercrest and hails from Weyburn.”
** Way to go Brooke--we are so proud of you!! Keep up the good work!

When someone does a kindness it always seems to me
That’s the way God up in Heaven would like us all to be …
For when we bring some pleasure to another human heart,
We have followed in His footsteps and we’ve had a little part
In serving Him who loves us—for I’m very sure it’s true
That in serving those around us,
We serve and please Him, too.

KINDNESS …
The practice of kindness is a daily, friendly, homely, caring form of love. It is both humble—a schoolboy bringing his teacher a bouquet of dandelions—and exalted—a fireman giving his life to save someone else’s. Kindness is love with hands and hearts and minds. It is both whimsical—causing our faces to crack into a smile—and deeply touching—causing our eyes to shimmer with tears. And its miraculous nature is such that the more acts of kindness we offer, the more of them we have to give, for acts of kindness are always drawn from the endless well of love.
Kindness is twice blessed. It blesses the one who gives it with a sense of his or her own capacity to love, and it blesses the person who receives it with a sense of beneficence of the universe. Kindness heals us, because it reminds us of our oneness and allows us to see ourselves in one another’s eyes: to remember that eyes themselves are a miracle, that seeing is a gift, and that the other, no matter who he or she may be, is, in one way or another, a perfect reflection of ourselves.
The power of kindness is immense. It is nothing less, really, than the power to change the world! -- Daphne R. Kingma

TRY AGAIN
In life there is no going back,
The road goes straight ahead,
We can’t return along the track
In search of what is dead.

Our past mistakes we can’t undo,
And wishing is in vain.
But try to keep this truth in view,
You can always try again.

Your world may fall about your ears,
And all your castles crash,
But dare to plan and dream anew
Amidst the dust and ash.

Don’t waste your time in vain regret;
Don’t grumble and complain.
Things may look bad—but don’t forget …
You can always try again!
